Community Resource Centre
We are developing an exciting and very much needed community resource centre that is open and accessible to all members of the community. We have two classrooms that we are utilising for a range of adult mentor workshops. The content of these workshops varies according to the skills those involved have to offer.
Here is an example of some of the past workshops that have been provided:
- Conversational English
- Drumming
- Beadwork
- Animal care
- Practical Science
- Maths tuition
- Geography is fun
- Drama (with a production)
- Poetry and song
- Dance and creative movement
- Arts and crafts
We currently have over 200 children registered with us from age 5-18yrs. The children are informed of our programme of workshops through the schools in the area that they attend. We are open in the afternoons from 1pm-5pm Mon-Fri. We are hoping in the future to be able to offer a full program of early evening classes for adults. We are beginning at present with Xhosa language classes once a week from 5pm-7pm.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
The choice is yours…you can get involved with one of the workshops currently on offer or you can initiate and develop one of your own. The children of this area are very eager and enthusiastic to learn and develop any new skill we are able to offer. Once school is out there is very little to stimulate them and most of them end up wandering around the town waiting for their parents to finish work and take them home. So be inspirational….find your hidden talents and come and share them with us.
