I wrote a list of a few things that I would miss about PSJ
- Driving through town in the back of the bukki (ute) and seeing a little kid's face light up because I was his/her teacher.
- Having the children at school bring me their work to correct - they would stand so close to me and touch me in amazement and play with my hair. 8/10 times their work would be incorrect, bless their souls, and they would keep going back to try and get it right in the hope that they might get a sticker from their "teacher".
- Taking the five Grade 3/4 girls for dance class, and watching them truly dance from the heart.
- Having a student say "I love you teacher".
Also a couple of stories
- I thought I would be a good girl and go to church. At the door of the church were 3 little boys from Grade 1. They jumped into my arms and gave me the biggest hugs- all of a sudden I felt like a local, being met by people I knew, I was at that moment SO happy. They sat with me until mass started, which was of course a good half hour late, where all their family and friends came up to greet me. One of the little boys kept hugging me and saying "I love you teacher Pinky". The Priest also included us in the service as much as he could, by continually telling us how welcome we were and that he and his congregation loved us. Unfortunately we couldn't understand the majority of the service as it was in Xhosa, but I mainly went there to hear them sing, which in itself was an uplifting feeling- they are all such spirited and happy people!
- Just before Easter I realised that the children did not know who the Easter bunny was, so on their last day of school I dressed up as the bunny for them and handed out a homemade hot cross bun to each of them...I made 79 buns in total!!!
