Youth Group

Our youth program began as we were concerned that boys who had undergone the traditional initiation camps were stuck in between being a boy yet not fully grown men.

Due to tradition they are no longer able to play with the younger boys and so are being forced to spend recreation time in and around the mens areas (i.e the shebeen bars) Our work so far has involved a group of 5 teenage boys who are working with us to develop a youth area.

With the generosity and support from Jungle Monkey backpackers, the boys obtained a pool table that was set up in a building away from alcohol and they are using the funds generated from this to further their activities.

They have now set up a furniture making workshop and are designing and making their own chairs. They also run movie nights for teenagers and sell popcorn in the local shop to further the funds that will be used for the development of a youth centre. The boys are very much at the forefront of the development of this initiative and they have lots of exciting ideas to take their project further.

Volunteer with us and spend some of that time helping the boys to take this initiative further. Run some skills / crafts workshops for them, fund raise with them and assist the purchase of tools or other necessary equipment.
